How do I make sure the weight I’m losing is fat and not muscle?

I started the 17 day diet a week ago and I’ve lost 5 pounds so far, but I’m scared that it’s all muscle and no fat. How can I make sure that I’m losing fat and not muscle? Does cardio build muscle?

Cardio will help burn calories but does not significantly add to muscle. Eat high protein (protein powder/egg whites), add some resistance training/weight lifting. Keep weight loss to 2 lbs/week maximum. Part of the 5 lbs you lost in the first week will be water, you’re probably on target.
